Tata Steel Meramandali observes World Environment DayÂ
As part of its continuous endeavour towards a sustainable tomorrow, Tata Steel Meramandali celebrated World Environment Day 2022 at its plant at Narendrapur in Dhenkanal district. To mark this occasion, a host of activities and initiatives were organised through a weeklong campaign. Celebrations will continue through the month of June, observed as Sustainability Month at Tata Steel.
This year, all the activities were centred around the World Environment Day 2022 theme, “Only One Earth”. Slogan writing, poetry, and poster competitions were organised for Tata Steel’s employees and business partners and a drawing competition was organised for students residing at the Company’s housing colony. The celebrations were not limited to the plant, but also extended to the community. A poster competition was organised for school students of Kurunti and Khaliberena villages near the plant where more than 150 students participated.
To create awareness among family members of employees residing at Tata Steel Meramandali’s housing colony, a “Greenathon” walk was organised on June 3, 2022. Amit Kumar Singh, Chief Iron Making, Tata Steel Meramandali and Shailesh Verma, Managing Director, Angul Energy Limited, a subsidiary company of Tata Steel, jointly flagged off the Greenathon programme where more than 100 residents participated.
An awareness session was organised in the colony in collaboration with the Regional Office, State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), Angul. Dr Anoop Mallick, Regional Officer, SPCB graced the programme as Chief Guest and made a presentation on plastic waste management. Chandra Sekhar Chouhan, Assistant Engineer, SPCB made a presentation on air management. Ved Prakash Thakur, Chief, Shared Services, Amar Bountra, Chief, Coke Oven-2, and Virendra Singh, Chief, Coke Oven-1 of Tata Steel Meramandali were present on the occasion along with other employees.
A mass plantation programme was organised inside the plant premise. Besides these, several departments of the plant planted saplings at various locations. More than 700 saplings were planted on the occasion.
